PARAKEET

Diet: bird seed, parakeet food can also consist of leafy greens, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Often called budgies, parakeets are playful and enjoy plenty of human interaction. With the right amount of training, proper socialization, parakeet food and treats, they can learn to speak and whistle. Parakeets make beautiful pet companions as they are bred in various vivid shades of blue, green and yellow.

COCKATIEL

Diet: cockatiel seed, cockatiels also enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables.

Adorable and clever, cockatiels are often chosen as pets because of their ability to learn tricks, whistle and even talk. Often taken outside of their cockatiel bird cages by their pet parents, cockatiels enjoy plenty of interaction and do well with older children that have experience in handling birds.

LOVE BIRDS

Diet: Fruit, vegetables, grasses and seed.

As the one of the smallest members of the parrot family, lovebirds have charmed their way into many homes for years. Talkative, while they don’t tend to be as loud as their other parrot relatives, they are adored for their playfulness, affection and beauty.

Diet: canary seed

Highly regarded for their melodious singing voices and brightly colored feathers, canaries make excellent pets. Lower maintenance than hooked bill birds, canaries don’t care to be handled and prefer to be left within their canary cages. While they are related to finches, canaries are not naturally social and are best when alone and not housed with other birds.

FINCH

Diet: finch seed blends

Beautiful and entertaining, finches make wonderful pets as they are easy to care for and charming to watch. Being lower maintenance than parrots and conures, finches are perfectly content remaining inside their finch cages as they prefer not to be handled. Finches are naturally social and enjoy the company of other finches, which is why it’s suggested to give a finch a companion to prevent boredom and loneliness

Diet: seeds, nuts, fruits, leaves, flowers

Macaws are known as the giants of the parrot world. Macaws have long tail feathers as well as big beaks. Their large, curved beaks are quite powerful and are designed to crack open hard nuts and seeds. Colorful and often raucous, they call attention to themselves even when quiet. Although, to the uninitiated, macaws seem formidable and may bluster and carry on, those who share their lives with these magnificent friends know that they contain surprisingly soft and loving hearts and sensitive natures.

Cockatoos stand out from other parrot species with their dramatic crest feathers, dusty feathers, and varying shades of white, pink, gray and black. Pet cockatoos are often referred to as “velcro” birds because of their highly sociable nature and borderline obsessive need to be around the people in their lives. Cockatoos are often described as intelligent and emotional birds and many describe life with a cockatoo as living with a perpetual 2-year-old child, capable of temper tantrums as well as complete silliness.
